San Francisco Balboa High School Yearbook
F 1964 S 1965 |

| September 1962 brought another group of Sophomores
to join the family of Balboa. There were 750 new bewildered students trying to find their way about. It didn't take long to find out exactly what was in store for them: three full years filled with fun, excitement, security, and studies. Their first activity was the traditional Hello Day Dance where Dennis Pierce and Linda Vincen+i were crowned King and Queen. When they became high tens they had their first class election. When the votes were counted, Cynthia George was President; Chris Fernandez, Vice President; Kim Thompson, Secretary; Arlene Hierro, Treasurer. It was this term that the mighty class of '65 lost a fourth of its class to the newly opened Woodrow Wilson. It was also when their sponsor Miss Joan Monte left Balboa and Miss Diana Chin took their place as teachers in Bal. The last sparkling memory of their Sophomore year was the Sophomore Picnic at Lake Temescal Regional Park in the East Bay. As low juniors the class of '65 showed great spirit in competing with low seniors for a hat day for Halloween. The officers for this term were: Frank Acosta, President; Pat Aglugub, Vice President; Cynthia George, Secretary; and Claudia Joy, Treasurer. The main event of this semester was the Junior Exclusive planned jointly with the H-11 class. This dance was held on the stage of the Balboa Auditorium, December 6, 1963. Walt Tollerson's band provided the music. As high juniors they had a new set of class officers. They were as follows: Art Butler, President; Renee Yates, Vice President; Beverly Ellis, Secretary; and Diane DiTrapini, Treasurer. Now the juniors are looking forward to their senior year, filled with all the excitement. At last their low-senior term rolled around. The class that started out with 750 students was reduced to 455 students. The joy of wearing their senior pins could be found on every low senior's face. President Art Butler, Vice President Linda Vincenti, Secretary Barbara Adams, Co-Treasurers Gail Pagliaro and Atalay Pinto started the term rolling. The excitement of ordering the senior sweaters took place. The football Queen for Bal-Lowell game was elected from our class. Miss Barbara Jones, a proud low-senior represented us at the game. The class put on the traditional Aloha Day Dance for the out-going seniors of Fall '64. This dance held on January 8 1965 was a big success. On January 20, the old tradition of the "Senior Review" was put on in honor of the out-going "High 'n' Mighties." Counting up to the very last day the class of Spring '65 awaited Move- Up. At last it was here, January 27, 1965, our MOVE-UP DAY! Leading their class down the aisle were the new High Senior Class Officers: President Steve Priola; Vice President Linda Vincenti; Secretary, Arlene Urquico Ass't. Treasurer, Jolene Cannon; Treasurer, Gail Pagliaro; Girls' Representa five, Barbara Jones, and Boys' Representative, Ken Chin. The spirit and excitement shown that "long waited for day" was unbelievable. Afterwards the new "High 'n' Mighties" headed out to the Fun House at Playland. Although tired, they all showed up for their Move-Up Party held at "The Village" from 8 p.m. to 12 p.m. The Hello Day Dance on March 5 was the first dance of the term. The "High 'n' Mighties" honored the new incoming low Sophomores at this dance. On May 19, 1965, their Senior Picnic, one of the last class activities, was held at Tamberlaine in Pleasanton. June 12, was the night of their Senior Ball. It was held in the Colonial Room of the St. Francis Hotel. Move-Up Day came too soon. The Class of Spring 1965 was seated on stage for the last time and wistfully watched the new "High 'n' Mighties" take their places. After Graduation, the members of the Class were together for the last time at their Graduation party at Castle Lanes. As all stories must end, so must their life at Balboa. Now the Class of'65 must face the outside world, but it will not be very hard because they attended "Bal at its Best." |
