| ALUMNI SECTION EDITOR'S MESSAGE During my three years at Balboa, I found the meaning of the word "TOGETHERNESS" — one of Balboa's many traditions. Through the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean Police Action, the Vietnam Conflict, the Civil Fights Movement. and even the Field Act Reconstruction (when the school was split into morning and afternoon sessions), the Buccaneers maintained that special touch of togetherness. The students looked upon Balboa as a warm place to be; If they became involved in school activities, and looked upon their fellow classmates as adopted brothers and sisters. In my own personal experiences here at Balboa, I've seen Elaine DELGADO undergo some physical changes, but the spirit Class of Spring, 1976 remained the same. No matter who you were — even if you Asst. EDITOR — Alumni Section thought you were a nobody who was labeled as a strange. clumsy lower-classman" — you still had a friend. I frequently see people who have graduated, and they are wearing their senior sweaters, and those people are walking tall. The next Thanksgiving "Turkey Day" Football Game Balboa attends, have a look around and see how many senior sweaters date back not only five or ten years but back twenty or twenty-five years. This is all done because of that word so many other graduates learned before I did. I can't help thinking of all the years Balboa has opened her doors in early Fall to those awk- ward, clumsy, confused "nobody" lower-classmen (which at one time we all were) and per- formed a miracle which left these people with a special feeling only she can give. She has done a fantastic job for fifty years — but in the later years, some of the enthusiasm has been lost. But before you blame her, you must remember she is old but she hasn't given up. Just remember those Move-Up Assemblies; all the new Seniors are so excited and happy. Ever wonder where they got their enthusiasm from? Well, all that excitement ot the past put together with her special touch reaches inside of them, and then they too learn the meaning of the word "Togetherness". Remembering how I left Balboa, I can honestly say that I am not only one who left with more than a diploma. So I congratulate Balboa for her determined will and I know she will continue through the years. I thank the faculty who have kept Balboa together, and most of all, I thank each and every student who graduated from 1931 to 1978 because they will remember Balboa as she will always be — "FIRST ON THE PACIFIC." |
