| SENIOR EDITOR'S FAREWELL As Editor of the Senior Section, I have noticed a lot of changes. For example, 1 found that many seniors are not graduating. Others dropped out or are on special tutoring at home. The Senior Section was planned for nearly 600 students, but only about 400 survived through three school years. Over 100 students did not make it for two main reasons — they turned 18 without enough credits to finish in time or they just didn't reach the mark and were reduced to juniors. What was happening to cause so many failures? Maybe drugs, or other students, or the teachers, or marriage, or an out- side job, or an unexpected baby on the way. Double Session was too much for some; others found their job more important than finishing high school. Students who get jobs through the school have to have good grades and citizenship and show great responsibility, but their school work must be done first. Many students show their excellence by qualifying for C.S.F. (California Scholarship Federation), which requires mostly A's and B's/ and when they go to college it serves as a very fine recommendation. Another important group is Hundred Bucs. The members must not only have good grades and citizenship, but also donate untold hours of service to the school at rallies and other school activities. A goodly number of our students plan on attending City College of San Francisco or some four- year college or university. Many succeed very well in higher education. The point is, even though too many drop by the wayside, we have caused to be proud of our Seniors who do graduate. I would like to say to all the successful graduating seniors that they have done a good job. It was really hard for me when I started doing the senior section because of all the students moving in and out and finally back into the graduating class. I want to wish all the winners a happy future in whatever they do. I also want to thank Mr. Larsen for helping me with the senior section and everything that had to be done connected with the Seniors, from sales, to photo orders, to complaints, and counting up all the credits time after time to be sure no one was left out by mistake. I hope he will accept my apologies for all the pressure that he had to put up with. Thanks also to everyone on the Yearbook Staff! Donna Ng |
