The Song Girls and the Yell Leaders form an essential part of Balboa. They are what make a good school
great, for they are given the responsibility of increasing and leading the school's spirit. The Head Yell Leader is an S.A. officer and he chooses his two assistants. The six Song Girls are chosen at a try-out judged by
teachers at the end of their junior year. To a girl this is one of the greatest privileges that could be
granted her at Balboa. Together these nine people work to make Balboa better than good—to make
Balboa great!

They must give up many hours to practice and make up new
routines and yells. You see them at every rally and game, their
spirit unwavering. The spirit of the entire school can soar to
great heights, or fall—depending on the performance and at-
titude of our Yell Leaders and Song Girls. Yes, they play an
important part inside Balboa, but outside our hallowed halls they
have many responsibilities also. They go to meetings at which
schools from all over the Bay Area are represented. They are
in the public eye more often than any other students in our
school. The impression they make weighs heavily on our school's
reputation. Yes, it's a wonderful, exciting experience to be a Yell
Leader or Song Girl, but a terribly responsible one too. One
must truly be "loyal all and ever true" to do their job well.
